The xTool F2 Ultra is a professional-grade dual laser workstation combining a 60W MOPA fiber laser and a 40W diode laser. MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) fiber technology represents the most advanced category of fiber laser — providing precise independent control over pulse width and frequency that standard fiber lasers cannot offer. This unlocks capabilities including deep colour engraving on metals, black marking on aluminium, and high-contrast marking on anodised and coated surfaces that require parameter precision to achieve.

Why MOPA vs Standard Fiber
A standard fiber laser has a fixed pulse width — it delivers pulses of a set duration and relies on power adjustments alone to vary the mark. A MOPA laser separates pulse width from pulse frequency, allowing each to be set independently. This matters because:
- Colour on stainless steel — different colours require different pulse widths. With standard fiber, the achievable colour range is limited. With MOPA, a full spectrum from blue through gold and purple to black is reliably reproducible.
- Black marking on aluminium — standard fiber tends to produce grey marks on aluminium. MOPA's short pulse widths achieve true black oxide marks on bare aluminium without anodising.
- Coated and anodised surfaces — MOPA removes coatings cleanly without thermal spread into the base material, preserving crisp edges.
- Sensitive plastics and electronics — short MOPA pulses mark heat-sensitive materials that longer standard fiber pulses would damage.
The 40W Diode Laser
The 40W diode laser handles the full range of organic and non-metallic materials: wood, bamboo, leather, acrylic, cork, fabric, and paper. At 40W it cuts basswood up to 20mm and acrylic up to 15mm in a single pass. The two lasers operate independently and can be used on the same job in sequence — mark a metal component with the fiber laser then engrave a leather surround with the diode, without moving the workpiece.
