Description
The xTool P2S is a 55W desktop CO2 laser cutter — the category of machine that small furniture makers, professional sign makers, model makers, and serious craft businesses have historically relied on for thick-material cutting. A CO2 laser at this power level cuts materials that diode lasers cannot: thick hardwood, thick acrylic, dense MDF, and leather at production speed. The P2S packages this capability in a desktop footprint with dual 16MP cameras, automatic passthrough, and curved surface engraving capability.

CO2 vs Diode — Why It Matters for Cutting
Diode lasers (450–455nm wavelength) are efficient for engraving and light cutting. CO2 lasers (10,600nm) operate at a wavelength that organic materials — wood, acrylic, leather, paper — absorb far more efficiently. At 55W, the P2S cuts 18mm basswood in a single pass. A 40W diode laser at the same thickness requires multiple passes and produces rougher edges. For production cutting of anything over 10mm thick, CO2 is the correct technology.
CO2 lasers also produce higher-quality engraved surfaces on many materials — smoother gradients on wood, cleaner edges on acrylic — because the longer wavelength interacts with the material surface more evenly than the shorter-wavelength diode beam.
Material Compatibility
- Cutting: Basswood up to 18mm, hardwood, plywood up to 15mm, acrylic up to 20mm, MDF up to 15mm, leather up to 8mm, cardboard, paper, cork, fabric
- Engraving: All the above plus rubber, bamboo, slate, marble, coated glass, anodised aluminium, painted metals
- Not suitable for: Bare metals (CO2 wavelength not absorbed by bare metal surfaces) — use fiber laser for metal marking
Dual 16MP Camera System
The panoramic camera captures the full 600 × 400mm work area in a single high-resolution image. The close-up camera provides 0.3mm positioning accuracy for detail work. Together they enable preview-based positioning — place irregularly shaped materials and see exactly where the design will land before cutting begins. The system also enables automatic multi-piece alignment for batch jobs.
