Modular Handheld 3D Scanner
3DMakerpro Turtle
One scanner body, three swappable optical modules. Change what you scan without changing your scanner — from 0.01 mm jewellery detail to 2-metre vehicle panels.
Most 3D scanners force a permanent decision: buy for fine detail and you cannot capture large objects; buy for range and you lose the precision that makes small work usable. The Turtle removes that decision. A single host body accepts three interchangeable optical modules, so the same scanner covers jewellery, mechanical parts and furniture. Add capability when the work demands it, rather than buying a second machine.

Choosing your configuration
Two decisions: which module or modules match the objects you scan, and whether you want the Control Pad for untethered work.
- Module only — the scanner runs PC-connected at 30 fps. The right starting point if you scan at a bench with a laptop nearby.
- Control Pad — adds the 6.4-inch 2K touchscreen and on-device processing for standalone scanning. Useful on site, in a workshop, or anywhere trailing a laptop is impractical.
- Multi-module bundles — the economical route if you already know you work across size classes. Buying two or three modules together costs considerably less than adding them individually later.

Pairs well with your printer
A scanner and a printer complete a loop: capture a physical object, refine it, and produce a new one. For fine work the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K resolves at 14 × 19 µm — a sensible match for the S module's 0.01 mm accuracy on jewellery and dental work. For larger scanned parts, an FDM machine or the Jupiter 2 handles the volume.
Questions about the Turtle
Which module should I choose?
Match it to what you scan most. The S module resolves 0.01 mm accuracy over a 160 × 120 mm capture area for objects roughly 10–300 mm — jewellery, dental models, small precision parts. The M module is the general-purpose choice at 0.03 mm for objects 15–1500 mm. The L module trades accuracy for reach: 0.05 mm over a 600 × 450 mm capture area for objects up to 2 metres. If you are unsure, most people start with M.
Can I add another module later?
Yes — that is the point of the design. The host body accepts any of the three modules, so you can start with one and add others as your work changes. Buying modules together in a bundle costs less than adding them individually afterwards, so if you already know you work across size classes it is worth doing at the outset.
Do I need the Control Pad?
Not to use the scanner. Without it the Turtle runs PC-connected at 30 fps, which is the faster mode and suits bench work. The Control Pad adds a 6.4-inch 2K touchscreen and on-device processing so you can scan standalone at 10 fps — worth it if you scan on site, in a workshop, or anywhere a tethered laptop is awkward.
Is it accurate enough for jewellery or dental work?
With the S module, yes: 0.01 mm accuracy and 0.05 mm resolution are appropriate for capturing jewellery pieces and dental models where the scan will drive a printed master or a CAD rebuild. For anything intended for use in a patient's mouth, the scan is only one part of a validated workflow — the resin and the printer must also be certified for that application.
What software does it use, and is it included?
The scanning and processing software is included at no extra cost. Geomagic Wrap for 3DMakerpro (Essential) is available separately for advanced mesh editing, surfacing and reverse engineering — worth considering if the scan is a starting point for CAD rather than a finished mesh.
