    12K MSLA Resin 3D Printer

    ELEGOO Saturn 4

    A 10-inch 12K masking LCD over a 219 × 123 × 220 mm plate — the practical sweet spot for batch resin work.

The Saturn 4 is where most people should start if they are printing resin to sell. Twelve-K resolution across a 10-inch panel delivers the great majority of the visual improvement over FDM, and the plate is deep enough to make batching worthwhile — because MSLA cures a whole layer at once, a full plate of miniatures costs the same time as one.

It uses a COB light source with a Fresnel collimating lens, the same optical arrangement as the Ultra models, so exposure stays even from the centre of the plate to the corners — the thing that decides whether a batch is uniform or whether the corner parts come out soft.

    What Makes It Different

    🔍

    10″ 12K mono LCD

11520 × 5120 pixels. For miniatures, display figures and most prototyping, 12K is the practical sweet spot — you pay less for resolution that delivers the great majority of the visible improvement.

    💡

    COB + Fresnel lens

The same collimating optics as the Ultra range. Parallel light means a part in the plate corner cures the same as one in the middle.

    📦

    Batch-friendly plate

219 × 123 mm of build area. Fill it completely and the print takes no longer than a single part — the reason resin suits small-batch production.

    ⚙️

    Auto-levelling

Set up once and trust it. No manual routine before each job.

    🛡️

    9H tempered glass

Protects the masking LCD — the most expensive wear part — from scratches and resin damage.

    🔓

    Open materials

Any 405 nm photopolymer resin. No proprietary cartridges.

Looking at the Ultra models? The Saturn 4 Ultra 16K adds Tilt Release, a heated resin tank, an AI camera and 150 mm/h on the same footprint. If you print daily, those are the upgrades that pay back.

You Will Also Need a Wash & Cure Station

A resin printer on its own is an incomplete system. Every part must be washed in IPA to remove uncured resin, then UV-cured to full hardness and dimensional stability.

    • Mercury Plus V3.0 — 7.5 L wash capacity with brackets that take build plates up to 10 inches, so it fits the Saturn 4 directly.
    • Mercury XS Bundle — separate wash and cure stations with a handheld UV lamp.

Release film, masking LCD, build plate and resin tank are wear parts on any MSLA machine. We stock replacements in Spain.

    Safety & workspace

Uncured photopolymer resin is a skin and eye irritant. Work in a ventilated space, wear nitrile gloves and eye protection when handling liquid resin, wash parts in IPA, and cure fully before handling bare-handed. Dispose of waste resin and used IPA as chemical waste — never down the drain. Keep away from children and pets.

    Who It's For

    • Miniature and tabletop studios printing batches to sell
    • Jewellery designers producing casting masters
    • Product and engineering teams needing fine-detail prototypes
    • Education — a capable shared resin machine for design programmes

    Questions About the Saturn 4

How many miniatures fit on one plate?

On a 219 × 123 mm plate you can typically fit 20–40 standard 28–32 mm tabletop figures depending on supports and spacing, or a smaller number of larger busts. The important point is that MSLA cures a whole layer at once, so a full plate takes the same time as a single figure — print time depends on height, not quantity. That is what makes this size worth having if you sell prints.

Should I buy the Saturn 4 or the Saturn 4 Ultra?

They share the same 12K panel, the same build volume and the same footprint, so print quality is comparable. The Ultra adds Tilt Release, a heated resin tank, an AI camera and 150 mm/h against 70 mm/h. Those are reliability and throughput upgrades rather than quality ones. If you print occasionally, the Saturn 4 is the better value; if you print most days, the Ultra pays back in fewer failures and shorter cycles.

Which wash and cure station fits the Saturn 4?

The Mercury Plus V3.0 is the direct match — its adjustable brackets take build plates up to 10 inches, so the Saturn 4 plate goes straight in. The Mercury XS Bundle also works, but you must remove the build platform first and wash the parts separately, because the Saturn 4 plate will not fit its tank. If you want to hang the plate itself, choose the V3.0.

Is it good enough to sell prints commercially?

Yes. 12K at this plate size is the configuration most commercial miniature and model sellers use, and the COB plus Fresnel optics keep exposure even so that corner parts match centre parts across a full batch. The limitation is throughput rather than quality — at 70 mm/h a tall plate takes a while, which is the argument for the Ultra if volume grows.

Can I run it in a spare room at home?

Only if that room is genuinely ventilated and you do not sleep in it. Resin off-gasses during printing and IPA off-gasses during washing, and concentrations that are fine during a ventilated day accumulate overnight in a sealed room. A garage, workshop or utility room with a window works well. Note that enclosures and carbon filters reduce odour but do not effectively remove VOCs, and keep the machine out of direct sunlight, which partially cures resin in the vat.
