    Entry-Level 4K MSLA Resin Printer

    ELEGOO Mars 5

A compact 6.6-inch 4K resin printer that fits on a desk — the straightforward way into MSLA detail without a workshop rebuild.

The Mars 5 is the sensible first resin printer. At 230 × 230 mm of desk space and 6.6 kg, it sits on a bench rather than requiring one, and it resolves detail an FDM machine simply cannot reach — crisp facial features on miniatures, clean casting masters, smooth prototype surfaces.

It is also genuinely easy to live with. A COB light source, a mechanical levelling sensor and a one-click self-check mean setup is measured in minutes, and the printer tells you if something is wrong before it wastes a tank of resin rather than after.

    What Makes It Different

    🔍

    6.6″ 4K mono LCD

4098 × 2560 pixels. Enough resolution for tabletop miniatures, display figures and casting masters where surface smoothness is the quality metric.

    💡

    COB light source

Even exposure across the panel for consistent curing from the centre of the plate to the edges.

    ⚙️

    Smart mechanical sensor

Levelling assisted by a mechanical sensor with a one-click self-check — the machine verifies itself before you commit resin to a plate.

    🛡️

    Overheat protection

Advanced thermal protection for unattended prints, plus a scratch-resistant PET film protecting the masking LCD.

    📚

    Batch printing

MSLA cures a whole layer at once, so a plate filled with miniatures takes the same time as a single one — the reason resin suits small-batch production.

    🔓

    Open materials

Works with any 405 nm photopolymer resin. No proprietary cartridges, no vendor lock-in on consumables.

You Will Also Need a Wash & Cure Station

A resin printer on its own is an incomplete system. Every part must be washed in IPA to remove uncured resin, then UV-cured to reach full hardness. Budget for this from the start — it is not an optional upgrade.

    • Mercury Plus V3.0 — 7.5 L capacity, comfortably more than the Mars 5 needs, and it will carry over if you add a larger printer later.
    • Mercury XS Bundle — separate wash and cure stations with a handheld UV lamp.

Release film, masking LCD, build plate and resin tank are wear parts on any MSLA machine. We stock replacements in Spain.

    Safety & workspace

Uncured photopolymer resin is a skin and eye irritant. Work in a ventilated space, wear nitrile gloves and eye protection when handling liquid resin, wash parts in IPA, and cure fully before handling bare-handed. Dispose of waste resin and used IPA as chemical waste — never down the drain. Keep away from children and pets.

    Who It's For

    • Tabletop and miniature painters — sharp facial features and fine texture straight off the plate
    • Jewellery designers starting with resin casting masters
    • Model makers and hobbyists wanting detail an FDM printer cannot reach
    • Education — a compact, affordable introduction to vat photopolymerisation
    • Engineers needing occasional fine-featured prototypes alongside an FDM machine

    Questions About the Mars 5

Where can I safely put a resin printer at home?

Somewhere ventilated that you do not sleep in. This is the single most important question to answer before buying, and it is not about the machine's size. Resin off-gasses while printing and IPA off-gasses while washing; levels that are acceptable in a ventilated room during the day accumulate overnight in a sealed one. A garage, utility room or workshop with a window is ideal. Carbon filters and enclosures cut odour but do not effectively remove VOCs, so real airflow matters more than a tent. Keep it out of direct sunlight too — UV through a window partially cures resin in the vat.

    What actually fits in a 143 × 90 × 150 mm build volume?

Comfortably: a batch of 6–12 standard 28–32 mm tabletop figures, a single bust up to around 150 mm tall, jewellery casting masters, or small functional prototypes. Not: helmets, large props or full-scale parts. If you already know you want large pieces, look at the Saturn 4 or Jupiter 2 instead — build volume is the specification people most often under-buy.

Mars 5 or Mars 5 Ultra — which should I get?

The Ultra has a 7-inch 9K panel against this 6.6-inch 4K one, runs at 150 mm/h against 70, adds auto-levelling and power-loss recovery, and protects the LCD with 9H tempered glass rather than PET film. If this is a hobby machine and budget is the constraint, the Mars 5 does the job well. If you intend to sell prints, the Ultra's speed and reliability upgrades repay the difference quickly.

What else do I need to buy to start printing?

Four things beyond the printer: 405 nm resin, a wash and cure station, isopropyl alcohol for washing, and PPE — nitrile gloves, never latex, plus eye protection. Paper towels and a plastic scraper are useful. Budget realistically for the wash and cure station in particular; it is part of the system rather than an accessory, and washing by hand in an open tub is both messier and worse for your air quality.

How do I dispose of waste resin and used IPA?

Never down a drain. Cure liquid waste, contaminated wipes and resin-saturated paper solid under UV light — sunlight works — then dispose of the cured solid according to local regulations. Saturated IPA should be taken to a chemical waste facility rather than poured away. In practice this is a small routine task, but it is a genuine legal and environmental obligation rather than a suggestion.

    Buying from Eolas Prints

We are a specialist 3D printing supplier in Cantabria, Spain, shipping across Spain and the EU. If you are weighing resin against FDM, we will give you a straight answer about which suits your parts — resin wins on detail, FDM wins on size, strength and convenience, and plenty of workshops need both. Ask us before you buy.
