Choosing a Bambu Lab Printer
The single most important decision is the printer's structure, because it determines which materials it can handle:
- Open-frame (A1, A2L): Fast, affordable, and ideal for PLA, PETG, and TPU. The A1 is the best starting point for most makers; the larger A2L adds a bigger build volume and optional cutting and drawing modules.
- Enclosed, passive (P1S, P2S): A closed chamber that also handles ABS and ASA. The P1S is the proven print-farm workhorse; the P2S is the refined modern version with a touchscreen and quick-swap nozzle.
- Active heated chamber (X2D, H2S, H2D): A 65°C heated chamber for engineering materials like PA-CF and PC. The X2D offers dual-nozzle clean supports in a compact body, the H2S delivers the largest build volume in the range, and the H2D is the flagship with dual independent nozzles and optional laser, cutting, and drawing modules.
Multi-Colour and Multi-Material with AMS
Most Bambu Lab printers support the AMS (Automatic Material System) for multi-colour and multi-material printing — up to 16 colours by chaining units. The AMS Lite pairs with the open-frame A-series, while the enclosed and active-chamber machines use the AMS 2 Pro, which also actively dries filament for reliable engineering-material printing.
