The Prusa Pro SLX is Prusa Research's professional MSLA (Masked Stereolithography Apparatus) resin 3D printer, designed for industrial, medical, and engineering applications where photopolymer resin printing needs to operate at scale with process traceability and active chamber heating. It fills a specific gap in the desktop-to-industrial resin market: larger build volume than typical desktop MSLA printers, active chamber heating for viscous industrial and medical resins, automatic resin handling, and a complete certified ecosystem (SLX printer, WX washing machine, CX curing station) designed to minimise operator contact with resin and solvents throughout the workflow.

MSLA vs FDM — When Resin Is the Right Choice
MSLA printers cure each layer as a complete image across the full build platform simultaneously, unlike FDM which deposits material point by point. This means layer time is independent of the number or size of objects on the build plate — a full plate of dental models takes the same time per layer as a single model. The resolution available from MSLA is also fundamentally higher than achievable with FDM: features below 0.1mm that are impossible to reproduce in filament are routine in resin. The trade-off is material handling: resins require post-processing (washing and curing), appropriate ventilation, and safe disposal. The SLX's ecosystem is designed to manage all of these safely and with minimal direct operator contact.
Active Chamber Heating
Standard desktop MSLA printers operate at room temperature, which limits them to low-viscosity photopolymer resins. Industrial and medical resins are often highly viscous or highly filled — they require elevated temperature to flow properly and achieve correct layer adhesion. The SLX's active chamber heating keeps the resin at the correct processing temperature throughout the print, enabling materials that simply cannot run on unheated machines. This is the feature that positions the SLX for dental, medical device, and engineering part applications requiring certified industrial resins.
The SLX Ecosystem
The SLX is designed to be used with the complete Prusa Pro ecosystem:
- SLX Printer — high-precision MSLA with heated chamber, automatic resin handling, tilt mechanism
- WX Washing Machine — automated two-cycle wash with pressurised spray gun, designed for contactless solvent handling
- CX Curing Station — uniform UV curing with smart presets ensuring consistent cure across the build
Together these three units form a complete, validated resin workflow from raw print to finished cured part, with minimal operator exposure to uncured resin and solvents at every stage.
Process Traceability
The SLX tracks resin type, resin volume consumed, wash times, and cure times — generating a process record for each job. For applications in regulated industries (dental, medical device, aerospace) where proof of correct manufacturing process is required for quality assurance or regulatory compliance, this documentation capability is a functional requirement rather than a convenience feature.

The SLX Ecosystem is certified for printing with most medical and industrial MSLA materials. Active chamber heating allows printing highly viscous and highly-filled materials. Though the SLX works best with certified compatible resins, it also offers printing with any 3rd party resin. The whole system allows tracking the whole workflow, which serves as proof of the correct manufacturing process.
