Bambu Lab has launched its first true tool changer. The Bambu Lab H3C, launched in November 2026, docks nine PrintTools, each with its own nozzle and filament, and switches material in about 6 seconds with roughly 38 mg of purge. Here is how it works, what it prints and how it compares with the Bambu Lab H2C and the Prusa CORE One L+ INDX.

What is the Bambu Lab H3C?

The H3C is an enclosed FFF printer in Bambu Lab's flagship H series. Where the H2D and H2S feed several filaments through one or two nozzles, the H3C gives every material a complete PrintTool: nozzle, heater and filament path. Eight tools take 1.75 mm filament and a ninth takes 2.85 mm flexible filament. It prints a 330 × 320 × 325 mm volume with 350 °C hardened-steel nozzles, a 120 °C bed and a chamber actively heated to 65 °C, and it ships with the new AMS 3H on top.

How SwapTek tool changing works

On a single-nozzle multicolour printer, every colour change means cutting the filament, pulling it back, loading the next one and purging the old colour out of the hotend. On a busy model that can produce more waste than printed part.

The H3C skips all of that. Unused PrintTools wait in a dock, and Active Pre-Heat warms the next tool while the current one is still printing. The toolhead swaps tools in 3.4 seconds, and the full material switch takes about 6 seconds with around 0.038 g of purge. Five tools can mix Bambu PLA Palette CMYKW into full colour while the others carry supports, silk, wood-fill or flexible materials in the same job.

AMS 3H: sealed storage, feeding and drying

The included AMS 3H sits on top of the printer and holds all nine spools in sealed, RFID-tracked slots with automatic loading. Two slots double as a dryer that reaches 85 °C, so PA, PC, PET and carbon-fibre filaments can be dried before or even during a print. If nine spools are not enough, an optional buffer lets PrintTool 1 draw from up to four existing Bambu Lab AMS units, for up to 24 spools in one print.

Materials, engineering filaments and soft TPU

Bambu Lab lists PLA, PETG, PCTG, TPU, EVA, PE, PP, PHA, PVA, BVOH, ABS, ASA, HIPS, PA, PAHT, PC, PET, PPA and PPS, plus carbon- and glass-fibre grades. Every PrintTool has a hardened-steel nozzle and extruder gears rated to 350 °C, so abrasive filaments are not limited to one special tool.

The ninth tool uses FlexFeed: it takes 2.85 mm flexible filament from a bypass slot and prints TPU as soft as 75A at up to three times the flow of Bambu Lab's previous generation. Rigid-plus-soft parts, such as PA-CF housings with TPU seals or PETG cases with flexible hinges, become a single print.

More than printing: CraftTools

Optional CraftTools (CutTool, DrawTool and DebossTool) dock exactly like PrintTools. One job can print a part and then cut, draw or deboss, without stopping to change anything by hand.

H3C vs H2C vs Prusa CORE One L+ INDX

All three avoid most of the purge waste of single-nozzle multicolour printing, but they get there in different ways.

In short: the H3C is the fastest and most flexible of the three for multi-colour and multi-material work. The H2C costs less and can also engrave and cut with a laser. The CORE One L+ INDX wastes the least per change, takes any filament brand and is built in the EU.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the H3C if you print multi-colour or multi-material jobs every day, want nine materials ready at once, print abrasive or moisture-sensitive engineering filaments, or need genuinely soft TPU in the same part.

Choose the H2C if up to seven materials is enough, you want a lower price and a shorter machine, or you want the Laser Full Combo for engraving and cutting as well as printing.

Choose the CORE One L+ INDX if you want the lowest waste per change, any filament brand without spool chips, Ethernet and offline operation, and a printer made in Prague that upgrades from 4 to 8 tools. On a smaller budget, the CORE One+ (Gen 2) INDX starts at €1,679.

Space, power and delivery

Plan for a tall machine. With the AMS 3H fitted the H3C measures 493 × 571 × 1016 mm and weighs 36.28 kg, and Bambu Lab recommends 593 × 1056 × 1306 mm of installation space so the AMS lid can open. It runs on 200–240 V, draws up to 2250 W while the bed heats, and has a 1050 W Low Power Mode for circuits with limited capacity.

Eolas Prints sells the H3C in two versions: the AMS 3H Combo and the Full Combo, which adds PLA Palette CMYKW, TPU 75A and the Bambu Station L FRAME Edition steel stand. Because of its size and weight it ships on a pallet within Spain and the EU, with a 2-year EU warranty. The current lead time is shown on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Bambu Lab H3C?

Bambu Lab's first tool-changing 3D printer. It docks nine PrintTools, each with its own nozzle and filament, and includes the AMS 3H for sealed storage and drying. It prints 330 × 320 × 325 mm at up to 350 °C in a 65 °C heated chamber.

How fast is a material change on the H3C?

About 6 seconds in total, of which 3.4 seconds is the tool change itself. Active Pre-Heat warms the next tool in advance, and each switch purges around 38 mg of filament.

How many spools can the H3C use in one print?

Nine as standard, one per PrintTool. With the optional buffer and up to four existing Bambu Lab AMS units connected to PrintTool 1, a single print can draw on up to 24 spools.

Should I buy the H3C or the H2C?

Bambu Lab keeps both in the range. The H3C switches faster, wastes less and handles nine materials, including soft 2.85 mm TPU. The H2C handles up to seven materials, costs less and is also available as a Laser Full Combo for engraving and cutting.

How does the H3C compare with the Prusa CORE One L+ INDX?

Both give every material its own nozzle. The H3C has 9 tools, switches in about 6 seconds, reaches 350 °C with a 65 °C chamber and includes the AMS 3H dryer. The CORE One L+ INDX has 4 or 8 tools, switches in about 12 seconds with about 0.013 g of waste, reaches 300 °C with a 60 °C chamber, takes any filament brand and is built in the EU.

Can I buy the H3C in Spain and the EU?

Yes. Eolas Prints, an official Bambu Lab reseller in Cantabria, sells the AMS 3H Combo and the Full Combo with a 2-year EU warranty and pallet delivery across Spain and the EU. The current lead time is shown on the product page.
